Conference Excursions and Tours

The Scientific Program of the PME35 is enriched with various social events and tours in order for participants to explore the host city and country and for the conference to be an enjoyable and memorable event for everyone.
Our Excursions will begin at 11am.

PME 35 Excursions

1st Excursion : Ankara City Tour
Duration : 5 Hours (included: transportation by coach bus, coordinator, professional guide,entrance to museum)

     

The meeting point of the tour is the conference venue, from where participants take the bus to the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, exhibiting gold, silver, glass, marble and bronze works date back as far as the second half of the first millennium BC. Then, they walk to the Ankara Castle built by the Romans, then repaired and expanded by the Selçuk in order to guard the city for centuries, is now a symbol of Ankara and its history is as old as the city itself. Later on, the bus will take participants to the II. Turkish Grand National Assembly Museum of Republic built as the Republican's People Party Headquarters in 1923, was later converted to function as the Assembly building in which Atatürk's principals and reforms came to life, the most important decisions taken on the way to develop the new Republic by contemporary legislation. Continuing the tour, the bus will take the participants to the Mousoleum of Atatürk, Republic's founder and leader. The Anitkabir museum is located between the Tower of the National Pact and the Tower of the Revolution. A number of Ataturk's personal belongings are exhibited, including clothes that he wore, and gifts presented to him by visiting foreign dignitaries.
After enjoying the wonderful panoramic view of the city, the bus will take the participants back to the conference venue.

2nd Excursion: Kızılcahamam Soğuksu National Park Tracking Tour
Duration : 6 Hours (included: transportation by coach bus, coordinator, professional guide, entrance to national park)

      

The bus will depart from the conference venue. After 2 hours of driving, we will arrive to to the entrance of the Soğuksu National Park. We we will start walking through the peak and when we reach the peak, we will give a little break and we enjoy the magnificent view and also have chance to see a rare type of vulture (Aegypius monachus) around the peak.  Then we will start to walk down the hill and enjoy the hyacinths, purple crocuses, yellow crocuses and other type of wildflowers. Lastly, we will walk through the forest and reach the starting point.  Our bus will be waiting for us and we are expecting to be in Ankara in around 7 pm.

Personal Items required for this trip: photo camera, sun glasses, protective lipstick, trekking shoes, comfortable trekking clothes, hat, rain coat, spare socks and clothes.

3rd Excursion : Gordion
Duration : 5 Hours (included: transportation by coach bus, coordinator, professional guide, entrance to museum)

     

The bus will depart from the conference venue. After an hour of driving, we will arive to Gordion which was the capital of the Phyrigians where there are almost a hundred tumulus graves of notables who lived and died between Phrygian and Galatian times. The largest tumulus has been identified as belonging to king Midas famed in Greek mythology as the possessor of the golden touch, and still contains some wooden furniture probably from his palace. 
Next stop is the Acropolis and then to the Local Museum in which there are some remnants from the surroundings though the main findings are on display in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara. 
After a 5-hour tour, the participants will arrive back in the city approximately at 5 pm.

4th Excursion : Beypazarı Duration :
Duration: 6 Hours (included: transportation by coach bus, coordinator, professional guide)

     

The bus will depart from the conference venue. After 1.5 hours of scenic driving, we will arrive to Beypazarı. Beypazarı is small town and is situated on the historical Silk Road, and there are about 3000 existing wooden houses. The Beypazarı tour starts with Hıdırlıktepe, a panoramic hill overlooking Beypazarı, a good photo opportunity. The tour will continue with Aladdin Street, a unique place where local Beypazarı style houses can be seen. Next in the program will be the Living Museum. The museum features local handcrafts such as needlepoint, embroidery, jewellery, copperware and woodcarving. Our next stop will be the Aladdin Mosque, dating back to the Selçuklu period. After visiting the Aladdin Street area, we then visit the Silversmith's Market to see some examples of locally made silver handicrafts.
After a 6-hour tour, the participants will arrive back in the city approximately at 6 pm.

Pre-Post and Accompanying Tours

A variety of excursions and tours as well as holiday arrangements can be organized for all interested participants before and after the conference.

Excursions and tours are also organized for accompanying guests throughout the 4 days of the conference.

PRE TOURS

01 PRE-CAPPADOCIA TOUR (July 9-10, 2011)

Tour Itinerary: 
Day One: 
Pick you up from your hotel at 07:30 am (we can also pick up you from Kayseri Erkilet Airport-ASR) if you have a direct flight from Istanbul to Kayseri and you can join the tour from the airport. After 4 hours of scenic driving from Ankara, we will arrive to Cappadocia area and then start sightseeing tour of Cappadocia Region. Highlights of the tour are; Goreme Open Air Museum, Zelve Valley, Pasabag Valley, Wine House, traditional handmade Carpet Factory, Cavusin Village, Citadel of Uchisar, 13th century Seljukian Caravanseria.

Day Two: After breakfast we will check out from the hotel at 07:30 and drive to Underground City of Kaymakli. There will be a break for lunch on the way back. Then we are expecting to Ankara arrive around 14:00 - 14:30

02 SAFRANBOLU & AMASRA TOUR (July 09 - 10, 2011)

Tour Itinerary:
Day One: Pick you up from your hotel at 07:30 am. After 3,5 hours of scenic driving from Ankara, we will arrive to Safranbolu and then we start sightseeing tour of Safranbolu with a panoramic view from Hıdırlık Peak. The lunch will be served at a traditional restaurant. Highlights of the tour at Safranbolu are; Kaymakamlar House (we will learn about traditional Turkish family lifestyle and architecture) Cinci Inn, Köprülü Mosque, Sundial and Yemeniciler Handmade Bazaar. Later we will continue driving to Amasra, and then stay at a hotel in Amasra.

Day Two: After breakfast we will get a small walking tour and visit Amasra Museum, Amasra Castel. After free time for shopping , we will drive back to Ankara. There will be a break for lunch on the way back. We are expecting to arrive Ankara around 14:30 - 15:00.

03 EFES & PAMUKKALE TOUR (July 15 - 16, 2011)

Tour Itinerary:
Day One: Pick you up from the Conference Venue after closing ceremony. We will stop by to the Hotels and pick up the luggages. Then drive to Pamukkale, After 7 hours of scenic driving from Ankara, we will arrive to Pamukkale. There will be a break for lunch on the way. Panoramic sightseeing of Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) which contains hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. We will stay in a hotel at Pamukkale.

Day Two: After breakfast we will check out from the hotel at 07:30 and visit ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis, monument includes the ancient thermal baths and archaeological museum. After driving for 2 hours we will arrive to Ephesus, the best preserved and restored ancient city in Turkey, "EPHESUS" is the best combination of Greek, Roman and Byzantine civilisations. You will visit the Fountains of Trajan, Polio, the Temples of Hadrian and Domition, Private House, the Library of Celcius, Varius and Scolasticia Baths, Bouloterion and the Great Theatre with a capacity of 24.000 spectators. After lunch, you will visit the House of Virgin Mary where she spent last days of her life on the top of the "Bulbul" mountain. At the end of the tour we are expecting to arrive around 19:00 to Izmir (you will be left to your hotel or to the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport - ADB).

04 ISTANBUL TOUR (July 15 -16, 2011)

Tour Itineraries:
Day One: Pick you up from the Conference Venue after closing ceremony and then drive to Istanbul. After 5 hours of scenic driving from Ankara, we will arrival to Istanbul. There will be a break for lunch on the way. Highlights of the day are ; Byzantine Hippodrome Blue Mosque and free time in old city area. We will stay in a hotel in Istanbul.

Day Two: After breakfast we will continue to our tour with Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and Süleymaniye Mosque. After lunch we will have free time for shopping at Grand Bazaar. At the end of the tour you will be left to your hotel or Ataturk Airport.

05 POST-CAPPADOCIA TOUR (July 15-17, 2011)

Tour Itinerary:The bus will depart from the conference venue after closing ceremony. We will stop by to the Hotels and pick up the luggages. After 4 hours of scenic driving from Ankara, we will arrive to Cappadocia area and check in to the Hotel. Morning we start sightseeing tour of Cappadocia Region. Highlights of the tour are; Goreme Open Air MuseumZelve Valley, Pasabag Valley, Wine House, traditional handmade Carpet Factory.

After breakfast we will visit the  Underground City of Kaymakli. Cavusin Village, Citadel of Uchisar, 13th century Seljukian Caravanseria. We will check out in July 17, 2011 after breakfast. Then we are expecting to Ankara arrive around 14:00 - 14:30

Early pick-up from your hotel to drive to Safranbolu for about 3 hours, mostly on highway. . On arrival, Visit to Hidirlik Hill, Kaymakamlar Museum, Coppersmiths, Shoemakers and Pack Saddle-Makers Bazaars, Izzet M.Pasa Mosque, Cinci Inn, Arasta Bazaar, Kopru Mosque, The Sundial Clock, Cinci Bath, Old Goverment Building, Clock Tower, Tradational Turkish Lunch, Safranbolu Turkish Delight Fabric, Yoruk Village( Tea Break), Sipahiler Museum, Laundry Museum,. In the evening drive back to Ankara.
